The Walt Disney Company’s Grooming Agenda Continues, Star Wars Celebration to Feature Panel About Drag Shows
The Walt Disney Company made it clear that they have a grooming agenda. It opposed a Florida bill to prohibit the teaching and learning of sexual orientation from kindergarten through the third grade. That agenda is still in place as the company approved a panel discussing drag for Star Wars Celebration.
Twitter user Akathatgayjedi stated that his drag panel, titled “The Walt Disney Company”, was approved by Lucasfilm and Star Wars. “Star Wars is a DRAG! – Exploring Star Wars through the Art of Drag” The Star Wars Celebration 2023 will take place in London, England starting April.
The user wrote “I am humbled, grateful, and over the forest moons to announce that my Star Wars Celebration panel w/ pencilscrathin and David Sigurani titled ‘Star WArs is a DRAG! – Exploring Star Wars through the Art of Drag’ has been OFFICIALLY APPROVED! We can’t wait to share this with you all!”

This announcement was also accompanied by a description of the panel that the user added. “The long and rich history of drag has graced the world with entertainment, culture, political action, and so much more. It is no wonder, then, that today the art form has reached such a cultural significance that the truths and concepts of drag performance permeate countless aspects of our daily lives…including Star Wars!”
It goes on. “Some of Star Wars’ very best characters embody various core principles of drag—whether it’s Din Djarin’s drag as personal expression and self-discovery, Asajj Ventress’ drag as Queer Rebellion, or Padmé Amidala’s drag as self-empowerment. The relevance of drag even spills out of the pages and screens of Star Wars and flows through the fandom itself through hobbies like cosplay.”
It concludes “While taking an introductory look at the history and function of drag in our world today, let’s also explore its thematic resonance and influential presence in everyone’s favorite far, far-away galaxy!”
As noted above, this shouldn’t come as a surprise given The Walt Disney Company embraced a grooming agenda during their fight with Governor Ron DeSantis and the state of Florida at the beginning of last year. Many Disney executives were able to reveal how deeply the grooming agenda was embedded in the company during the fight.
Latoya Ravenau, then executive producer of Disney Television Animation, admitted to having a secret gay agenda and pushing it in her pocket at the Proud Family.
Ravenau said, “In my little pocket of Proud Family Disney TVA, the showrunners were super welcoming. Meredith Roberts and our leadership over there has been so welcoming to my not-at-all-secret gay agenda.”
“Maybe it was that way in the past, but I guess something must have happened in the last, they are turning it around, they’re going hard, and then like all that momentum that I felt, that sense of ‘I don’t have to be afraid to have these two characters kiss in the background.’ I was just, wherever I could, just basically adding queerness. If you see anything queer in the show — no one would stop me, and no one was trying to stop me,” She elaborated.

Vivian Ware, Diversity & Inclusion Manager Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, noted that the company actively removed gendered greetings from their parks. “Last summer we removed all of the gendered greetings in relationship to our live spiels.”
She said, “So we no longer say, ‘Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls.’ We provided training for all of our cast members in relationship to that. So now they know it’s, ‘Hello, everyone’ or ‘Hello, friends.’”
Ware kept saying, “We’re in the process of changing over those recorded messages, and so many of you are probably familiar when we brought the fireworks back to the Magic Kingdom, we no longer say, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,’ We say, ‘Dreamers of all ages.’”
“So I love the fact that it’s opened up the creativity, the opportunity for our cast members to look at that. We have our cast members working with merchandise, working with food and beverage, working with all of our guest-facing areas, where perhaps we want to create that magical moment with our cast members, with our guests,” She said.
Ware was then added. “And we don’t want to just assume because someone might be, in our interpretation, may be presenting as female, that they may not want to be called ‘princess.’ So, let’s think differently about how do we really engage with our guests in a meaningful and inclusive way that makes it magical and memorable for everyone.”

Bob Chapek, the Disney CEO, stated that the company would not adhere to the Florida law regardless of whether it was enacted. He also said that they would teach children about gender identity and sexual orientation through their programming.
Chapek described the details in an email he sent to Disney employees. “This struggle is much bigger than any one bill in any one state, I believe the best way for our company to bring about lasting change is through the inspiring content we produce, the welcoming culture we create, and the diverse community organizations we support.”
“There’s a reason content is at the top of this list. For nearly a century, our company’s stories have opened minds, inspired dreams, shown the world both as it is and how we wish it could be, and now more than ever before, represent the incredible diversity of our society,” He explained.
Chapek was then added. “We are telling important stories, raising voices, and I believe, changing hearts and minds.”
Later, he added, “I firmly believe that our ability to tell such stories-and have them received with open eyes, ears, and hearts -would be diminished if our company were to become a political football in any debate.”
“Powerful content that changes hearts and minds only springs from inclusive cultures, which not only attract and retain the best and most diverse talent, but also give those employees the freedom to bring forth ideas that reflect their lives and experiences. We must work together to ensure Disney always remains such a place,” He asserted.
Bob Iger, the former CEO of the company was also announcing that Disney would maintain the grooming policy laid out by Chapek as well as Disney employees.
When asked about Disney’s battle with the state of Florida, Iger said, “Well, first of all, our LGBTQ employees are very important to us and we care deeply about them. That is a given.”
He continued, “Secondly, this company has been telling stories for a hundred years and those stories have had a meaningful, positive impact on the world. And one of the reasons that they’ve had a meaningful, positive impact is one of our core values is inclusion, acceptance, and tolerance. And we can’t lose that. We just can’t lose that.”
As a response to the “so-called “Don’t Say Gay” Iger stated that Disney would continue to promote legislation “inclusion,” However, he suggested that the company should strike a deal. “delicate balance” And “listen to [its] audience” And “have respect for the people that [it’s] serving.” This is a retreat. pic.twitter.com/bZBnQdm616

“We also — when you tell stories it’s a delicate balance,” He opined. “You’re talking to an audience, but it’s also important to listen to an audience. It’s important to have respect for the people that you’re serving, that you are trying to reach, and not have disdain for it.”
Then, he said: “That said we’re not going to make everybody happy all the time and we’re not going to try to. We’re certainly not going to lessen our core values to make everybody happy all the time. So it’s complicated and there’s a balance.”
The value of educating young children into degenerate, hedonistic and destructive lifestyles is unquestioned. This is what The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are now advocating.
