Standards for new household gas and electric cookers, some of them never subject to federal efficiency standards.
Following the political frenzy, DOE’s rule-making proposal was published Wednesday.
The fate of gas stoves
The Consumer Product Safety Commission, a federal regulator, suggested that they could be banned to reduce indoor pollution.
BIDEN ADMINISTRATION RACKS UP 110 RULES ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The rulemaking proposed would establish new efficiency standards for electric and gas stoves. It would also prevent them from using more energy than they need per year.
According to a spokesperson for the department, these metrics would not limit stove usage once they have been installed and are in use.
“Instead, the metric will ensure cooktops are produced to meet a certain level of energy efficiency if the proposed rule is finalized,” The person spoke.
It would also establish regulations for electric ovens, requiring that they do not use a linear power supply or produce unregulated as well regulated power.
The same ban would be applied to gas ovens.
DOE’s rulemaking stated that energy savings would increase the security and reliability the nation’s energy system. It estimated that energy savings could be as high as 3.4% relative to an alternative scenario.
The study also indicated that manufacturers would have to pay $183.4 million in conversion costs to meet the standards.
After concluding that new standards were not economically justifiable and would not lead to significant energy conservation, the Trump administration decided not to promote new conservation rules for these categories of appliances.
