Kyrie Irving reportedly asked for a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. He wants to be dealt prior to the NBA trade deadline of February 9.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania was the first to report Irving’s trade request. According to Charania, Irving will leave Brooklyn this offseason if the Nets don’t trade him before the deadline.

At first glance, Irving’s trade request, specifically the timing of it, comes as a bit of a shock. The Nets are now 31-20 despite losing seven of 11 games since Kevin Durant suffered a knee injury. Irving is playing exceptionally well with an average 27.1 points and 5 assists per game.

When you think back to last season, however, it’s surprising Irving didn’t request a trade sooner.

Sean Marks, Nets’ General Manager, announced that Irving would be unable to practice or play for the team in October 2021 due to his injury. Status of unvaccinated New York City COVID-19 mandate. Irving was eligible for away games. Marks, however, prevented Irving from participating by executing his pro-vaccine, politically motivated stunt and keeping Irving off of the floor.

Irving was then allowed to participate in road games in Toronto and New York City two months later.

Irving was unable to perform his job for most of last season. However, Irving surprised everyone by signing up for his player option during the offseason.

After the vaccine charade and his Promotion of anti-semitic films Irving believes this is the best time to leave Brooklyn, as it resulted in an 8-game suspension earlier in the season.

Charania’s report stating Irving will leave as a free-agent if he’s not traded by the deadline is also noteworthy. The Nets are under pressure to trade Irving and get something in return, rather than letting him walk free this summer.

Irving will be traded if he is not traded before the deadline. He has suited up for three different NBA teams during the past five seasons.
