ChatGPT Founder Wants AI to “Break Capitalism”
Sam Altman is the CEO of ChatGPT creator OpenAI. He spoke to us recently. Forbes Altman spoke out about the future and development of ChatGPT, which Altman hopes will one day become a reality. “break capitalism.”

OpenAI is the most highly regarded startup in the rapidly expanding generative AI category. In the interview, Altman talked about the company’s journey and its meteoric rise of its first product, ChatGPT. Altman described the current state of affairs as “an exciting time” He expressed his hope that the company is still in its early stages with lots of room for growth. OpenAI sees ChatGPT’s recent success as just the beginning of an exponential path to improving AI technology and society’s impact.
Altman, when asked about ChatGPT’s success, stated that he was shocked by its sudden popularity. “I wanted to do it because I thought it was going to work. So, I’m surprised somewhat by the magnitude. But I was hoping and expecting people were going to really love it.”
Altman also expressed that he’s a capitalist but that the AGI (artificial general intelligence that thinks like humans) could possibly disrupt the current economic system. “I think capitalism is awesome. I love capitalism,” Altman. “Of all of the bad systems the world has, it’s the best one — or the least bad one we found so far. I hope we find a way better one. And I think that if AGI really truly fully happens, I can imagine all these ways that it breaks capitalism.”
Altman also spoke out about the similarities between the AI market, other emerging technologies, such as search engines and cloud computing. Altman said that although there are many similarities between the two technologies, it is important that each technology be recognized for its uniqueness. He explained that it is easy for OpenAI to be compared to the cloud computing battles in which companies like Google and Microsoft engaged, but there are subtle differences in how companies will choose to enter the AI market.

But I think someday, an AI system could. More than that, though, I think people are just totally missing the opportunity if you’re focused on yesterday’s news. I’m much more interested in thinking about what comes way beyond search. ”
