AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament This weekend, the Bay Area of Northern California will host the event. It is generally mild in this area.
However, play was suspended Saturday because of the incredible winds. Players returned to more wind plus and HAIL Sunday morning.
Since the third round couldn’t be completed on Saturday, the PGA faced tough scenario. The tournament was scheduled to end on Monday. But if players couldn’t play on Sunday, there was a real possibility of shortening the event to just three rounds. This is not ideal.
Pebble Beach is a tough place for players
On Sunday, players had to endure the worst conditions possible. After finishing their third round, players had to wait for the hail to clear from the greens. Pebble Beach had actual ice pebbles on its greens.
It is not clear if those were the pebbles which gave rise to the name of the course.
In the midst of hail, players also faced rain.
Ground crew workers had to clean the hail and squeegee leaves between shots and groups. One man even wore masks.
Twitter added a handy option to their site. “See the latest COVID-19 information on Twitter” Click the button below the tweet. I was curious if the latest information recommended wearing a helmet outside during a hailstorm?
But I digress.
If you live in the Northern United States and love to golf, it’s part of the fun to brave snow, hail, wind, and rain!
We are glad to see Californians get a taste for true February golf.
It’s amazing that the sun rose within an hour and all was well. Even wildlife emerged from hiding.
It even made a rainbow appearance.
That’s the part we don’t usually get in the North.
