Police Release Photo Of Suspect In Assault Of House Democrat

Washington, D.C. police released a photograph of the suspect in the Rep. Angie Craig allegedly assaulted (D-MN), in an elevator at her apartment building on Thursday morning.

The Metropolitan Police Department shared the image from the surveillance camera and asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. According to the U.S. Capitol PoliceThe suspect is thought to be homeless.

Craig “defended herself from the attacker and suffered bruising, but is otherwise physically okay,” said her chief of staff Nick Coe in a statement. Craig called 911 and the assailant fled the scene, her office said. “There is no evidence that the incident was politically motivated,” the statement added.

D.C. police encouraged anyone with relevant information to call 202-727-9099 or text 50411. “Crime Solvers of Washington, DC currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia,” police said in a statement.

Hours after the alleged assault, Craig was back at work. She voted with fellow Democrats and Republicans to overwhelmingly pass a resolution to formally rebuke China over a suspected spy balloon that flew over the United States last week.

After losing a congressional bid in 2016, Craig was first elected to represent Minnesota’s Second Congressional District in 2018. Craig is married to her wife, Cheryl Greene, and they have four sons together, according to the congresswoman’s website.
