National Endowment for the Humanities to Mark 250 Years of U.S. Independence With Media Projects Focused On Oppression of Minorities

The National Endowment for the Humanities is planning to spend $3.5 Million on a variety of media projects to promote a narrative about U.S history that focuses on racial justice and gender equality.
The amount of funding available is below “A More Perfect Union,” An NEHSpecial initiative“The agency claims that is “designed to demonstrate and enhance the critical role the humanities play in our nation, while also supporting projects that will help Americans commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.”
The agency will make available up to $3.5 Million among the expected 12 grantees for media-related projects. “explore, reflect on, and tell the stories of our quest for a more just, inclusive, and sustainable society throughout our history,” According to the description of the program in Notice of Funding Opportunity.
“NEH especially welcomes projects that bring the perspective of the humanities to questions of racial justice, gender equality, the evolution of the American landscape, as well as America’s place in the world,” The agency will indicate.
While “A More Perfect Union” The media funding program, which also appears to be focusing on the plights of oppressed minorities throughout U.S history, also seems to have this focus. “strongly encourages projects that strengthen Americans’ knowledge of our principles of constitutional governance and democracy,” The NEH claims that “as well as projects that address the experiences of Native Americans and other under-represented communities.”
Deadline for Grant Applications was January 11, 2023.
The NEH didn’t respond to a request to comment on the grant.
