China and Pakistan Holding Joint Naval Exercises
The eighth edition is the fifth-day AMAN-23 Multinational Naval Exercises The event was held in the Arabian Sea on Friday. The event is hosted by PakistanThe event featured sailors from more than 50 countries, as well as aircraft, special operation forces, naval vessels, and marines. The event is held every other year and promotes maritime security with the support of regional and global partners to fight piracy and terror, as well as to end the flow of narcotics, arms trafficking, climate change, and stop their recurrence. Its motto is “Together for Peace” – as AMAN means “Peace” in Sanskrit and Urdu.
While this year’s exercise includes vessels and other elements from the navies of the United States, Turkey, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Sir Lanka, Bangladesh, and numerous African Union nations, this year it also saw an element of China’s People Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) take part. Beijing has deployed the Type 052D guided-missile destroyer NanningTogether with a boat-borne helicopter and dozens more marines.
“In this exercise, we are mainly participating in tactical exchanges in the harbor, ship exhibition, live-fire shooting, counterterrorism, anti-piracy operations, and search and rescue, among other tactical courses,” Qiu Maoxuan is the captain of Nanning. The Global Times spoke to them on the sidelines.
These exercises will continue through Tuesday were designed to include two components that had harbor and ocean phases. – with the former featuring seminars, operational discussions, demonstrations, and pre-sail planning, while the second has included tactical maneuvers related to maritime security including anti-piracy and counter-terrorism drills, as well as search and rescue operations. China and Pakistan have closer ties
As China and Pakistan have been collaborating in naval and maritime affairs in recent years, it was not surprising to see a Chinese warship included in the AMAN-23 exercises.
Pakistan also has four advanced procurements Type 054A/P frigates departing from Beijing, and the first two vessels – the PNS Tughril and PNS Taimur – were Commissioned into the Pakistan Navy The two remaining warships will join our fleet later in the year, in June 2022 and December 2021 respectively.
