Pat McAfee Discusses Being Sued By Brett Favre: “I’ll See Ya In Court, Pal.”

Bret Favre’s ongoing welfare scandal has been a legal and public relations nightmare.

Shad white first accused Favre in 2020 of receiving $1.1million federal funds via Mississippi for appearances that he did not make. The retired star originally defended himself by saying he made the appearances and did not know the origin of the money he was paid.

Later, however, text messages revealed that Favre had secretly asked the former Mississippi governor. Phil Bryant was the one who requested the funds. Bryant warned Favre several times that the funds he requested might be illegal.

Favre was determined to secure the funds for the construction of a new volleyball stadium at Southern Mississippi University. The State of Mississippi provided $5 million and Favre contributed $1.1 million.

Also, the Old Gunslinger is said to have taken from the poor in order to give to them. At least, that’s what it looks like to most observers: The hungry and homeless continued to do without, so that a sparkling new sports facility could be built.

Multiple parties have been involved in the scandal. Plead guilty for criminal charges. Favre was not indicted for a crime but is now facing a civil suit from Mississippi.

Brett Favre also plans to sue former NFL star Shannon Sharpe, and Mississippi Auditor Shad white.

White’s official complaint reads in part: “Shad White, the State Auditor of Mississippi, has carried out an outrageous media campaign of malicious and false accusations against Brett Favre — the Hall of Fame quarterback and native son of Mississippi — in a brazen attempt to leverage the media attention generated by Favre’s celebrity to further his own political career.”

It adds: “By shamelessly and falsely attacking Favre’s good name, White has gained national media attention he previously could have only dreamed of, including appearances on television shows on CNN and HBO, a popular ESPN podcast, as well as interviews for print and online media.”
