Former St. Louis Cardinals Broadcaster Dan McLaughlin Apologizes After Third DWI Arrest, Reveals He’s On Road To Recovery

After field sobriety tests and the officer’s personal observations, McLaughlin was arrested for a DWI.

McLaughlin would have to step down He resigned from his position as a club member after 24 seasons. He will appear in court on Feb. 4 and plead guilty.

This being McLaughlin’s third time being convicted of DWI, he was listed as a persistent offender. McLaughlin had been previously charged with two DWIs and pleaded guilty to one of them in 2010.

McLaughlin will be replaced in the Redbirds’ booth by former Atlanta Braves announcer Chip Caray.

The former St. Louis Cardinals announcer appears to be at peace with his life.

McLaughlin posted a thoughtful and long-form statement on Monday via his social media platforms. It discussed where he was at the moment mentally as well as his future plans. This was a very deep and honest statement for someone in public spotlight. It was likely that the mic man felt it because of his past. Not required to do.

McLaughlin’s statement, in part, discussed him coming to terms with the fact that he would have to make some major life changes. The 48-year old announcer tried to be straightforward about his situation.

“My life, as I knew it, was essentially over at 6:15 p.m. and less than three miles away from my home on that Sunday evening,” In the statement, he stated.

McLaughlin said that he has been through outpatient therapy, and is currently attending Alcoholics Anonymous.

“I’m on the right path. It won’t happen overnight, but I know I am doing the work I need to do to heal.”

Dan McLaughlin had always been a natural fit for the Cardinals’ announcing job. McLaughlin is a native of the Gateway City. He attended Lindenwood University in college and is now about as ‘St. Louis’ As pork steaks, toasted ravioli. His roots in the community run deep, and he’s considered one of the community’s favorite sons.

For a while, he worked at KMOX’s 50,000-watt powerhouse KMOX. This was a milestone for many great broadcasters. He also worked for the University of Missouri and contributed to the St. Louis Blues hockey broadcasts.

He also hosted the Dan McLaughlin Golf Tournament, which was a benefit for special education. McLaughlin’s passing not only caused pain for the team but also the community.

The majority of the fans are affectionately called “Fans”. ‘Cardinal Nation’, seem to be on the beleaguered broadcaster’s side in his battle with alcoholism. McLaughlin, on the other hand, is determined to get out of the darkness and back into the light.
