Biden Makes Surprise Trip to Ukraine in First Visit Since War Began

President Biden In a surprise visit to Ukraine’s capital Kyiv Monday morning, I arrived just one year before Russia’s invasion. 

Biden gave remarks and met Zelensky in Mariinsky Palace to announce a half-billion additional dollars in U.S. support. The new U.S. assistance includes anti-tank missiles, shells for howitzers and other aid, but not new weaponry.

It is Biden’s first ever trip. Traveled to Ukraine Since Russia launched its invasion one-year ago. 

Biden had been expected to visit Poland Monday to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the war, but instead he took a 10-hour train ride to the Ukrainian capital from the Polish border.

Biden stated that he went to Ukraine to meet Zelenskyy. “reaffirm our unwavering and unflagging commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.” 

He observed that Russian President Vladimir Putin Was “dead wrong” Because he believed Ukraine was weak, he launched an invasion of Ukraine a year ago.

“I am meeting with President Zelenskyy and his team for an extended discussion on our support for Ukraine,” Biden said. “I will announce another delivery of critical equipment, including artillery ammunition, anti-armor systems, and air surveillance radars to help protect the Ukrainian people from aerial bombardments. And I will share that later this week, we will announce additional sanctions against elites and companies that are trying to evade or backfill Russia’s war machine.”

“Over the last year, the United States has built a coalition of nations from the Atlantic to the Pacific to help defend Ukraine with unprecedented military, economic, and humanitarian support – and that support will endure,” He continued.

Biden said that he was looking forward to meeting the Polish President Andrzej Duba and the leaders from our Eastern Flank Allies, as the U.S. continues to rally the world in support of Ukraine.

Sirens might be heard in Ukraine in war Biden arrived in Ukraine as well. Already, the U.S. has provided financial assistance and military equipment in excess of tens billions of dollars to Ukraine.

As Biden met with Zelenskyy, Fumio Kishida, the Japanese Prime Minister, also announced $5.5 Billion in aid to Ukraine.

Biden’s visit coincides with Russia expected to intensify its offensive once more in its own acknowledgement for the one-year anniversary. Officials from Ukraine warn Russia could launch a huge barrage of missiles on Friday, February 24.

Despite Western sanctions and losses on battlefield, Russia has continued to attack. The majority of Western countries support Ukraine’s defense against Moscow’s invasion.

While many U.S. lawmakers believe that Ukraine should be given top priority, others have criticised decisions to give financial aid without proper oversight. Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker has stated that Ukraine should not receive financial aid. “blank check,” But the Biden administration has pledged to support Zelenskyy’s regime. “as long as it takes.”
