Socialist Sen. Sanders Confronted on Using Capitalism to Sell Books

Sunday’s CBS Face the NationMargaret Brennan, moderator, had a sit down interview with Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont about his new book “It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism,” Which he Ironically, this ironically also sells Amazon: $22.40 You can also purchase tickets to his shows on Amazon. book tour TicketsMaster allows you to book tickets starting at $55 or $95 It seems that capitalism treats him fairly well. So it begs the obvious question: Why does Bernie Sanders hate it so much? Brennan brought up the topic during the interview.

Brennan used her last question to confront Sanders about his hypocrisy in her sit down: “you’re going on tour to promote this book ‘it’s okay to be angry about capitalism.’ And you’re here talking about it. I understand we’re not the bad guys you’re describing in the book when it comes to media, but tickets for your tour apparently are selling for $95 on TicketMaster.”

She pointed out that Sanders’s use of TicketMaster was hypocritical. “some of your [fellow] Democrats are criticizing them.”

Brennan asked Sanders straight: “aren’t you benefitting yourself from the system that you’re trying to dismantle?”

Sanderson was able to ignore any double standards. “those decisions are made totally by the publisher and bookseller. I think there’s one case where in one place here in Washington, Politics and Prose, an independent bookstore charging some tickets.”

He also denied that he made any profit from the ticket and book sales which is highly questionable. “I don’t make a nickel out of these things,” Sanders claimed.

MARGARET BRENNAN You’re talking about it. Although we are not the bad guys you describe in the book, tickets for your tour appear to be selling for $95 at TicketMaster. Which is accused in anti-competitive behaviour. You already know this. Some of your Democrats are critiquing them. Don’t you see yourself as benefitting from the system you want to destroy?

SEN. BERNIE SANDERS: These decisions are completely made by the bookseller and publisher. One case, Politics and Prose in Washington, is where an independent bookstore charged tickets. They range in price from $40 to $50 and include a book. You’ll need to pay $40 if you wish to attend. I will give you the book at no cost. We are doing many events for free. However, I don’t make a dime from these events.

BRENNAN

SANDERS: No not particularly, but that’s again—I have nothing to do with that. This is because if you were to write a book, it would likely be the same.

BRENNAN

SANDERS : I do. I write a book, a major publisher etc, etc…
