North Carolina Redistricting Case Could Give GOP 4 Seat Boost in House

North Carolinas state Supreme Court He is scheduled to hear a challenge on the state’s congressional map. It could benefit the GOP in 2024.

The current map was created after the state Supreme Court invalidated a legislature-passed one. It could result in the Republicans gaining as many as four House seat(s) in 2024.

After the elections of last fall, the conservative majority on the state Supreme Court is now in control. Recently, however it agreed to reconsider its earlier decision.

North Carolina’s 14 House Seats are currently evenly split between Republicans & Democrats. However, the Court ruled that the old map would have given the GOP as many as 11 seats.

One expert said Reuters It would not surprise if an old map were reintroduced rather than a new one being created.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they just went through the Kabuki theater, and we actually end up with exactly the same maps,” Catherine Turcer is the executive director at Common Cause Ohio. Submitted Reuters

Early projections Cook Political Report’s 2024 House Races Projections show that the GOP holds a significant advantage. The early projections include the installation of new Republican-friendly North Carolina and Ohio maps.

The House of Representatives is currently controlled by the Republicans with a narrow 221-212 majority. They took back control of it in 2022 despite being underperforming in key races throughout the country.
