Florida Bill Would Ban Mandatory Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statements for Hiring, Tenure at Colleges
Florida’s proposed legislation would ban the inclusion of mandatory diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) statements in higher education hiring and tenure decisions.

Additionally, the legislation would require that public colleges be established. “establish an Office of Public Policy Events.” The office would encourage debates on campus and stimulate discourse.
The legislation is part in a wider effort to reform higher educational in Florida. The presidents of 28 public universities in Florida were elected last month. Announcement Ban Policy that requires a “belief in Critical Race Theory.”
In their memo, they stated that the presidents had “will ensure that all initiatives, instruction, and activities do not promote any ideology that suppresses intellectual and academic freedom, freedom of expression, viewpoint diversity, and the pursuit of truth in teaching and learning.”
They also added that “As such, our institutions will not fund or support any institutional practice, policy, or academic requirement that compels belief in critical race theory or related concepts such as intersectionality, or the idea that systems of oppression should be the primary lens through which teaching and learning are analyzed and/or improved upon.”
Several universities have now implemented mandatory DEI statements. Eastern Washington University, for instance, required applicants to custodial jobs that pay between $35,064 – $39,372. Send Statements on diversity.
According to the university, they are “interested in how your qualifications prepare you to work with diverse faculty, staff, and student populations representing various cultures and backgrounds that may be different from your own.”
