U.S. to Target Chinese Companies in Upcoming Sanctions on Russia

U.S. Sanctions Target Russia The anniversary of Ukraine’s war will be marked by a commemorative event. ChinaAccording to the State Department, there are a number of linked entities that violate Moscow’s export bans.

The Biden administration has identified that China-linked firms—some Europe-based—are evading existing sanctions Russia’s actions against Russia were intended to undermine Moscow’s ability finance and supply the military offensive in Ukraine.

“There will be in the sanctions packages that we will be announcing tomorrow on the one-year anniversary of the war,” U.S. Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said during a live Washington Post event on Feb. 23. “We will also be putting other constraints on entities, Chinese-based or Chinese subs of entities in Europe.”

The U.S. Department of the Treasury published its January report sanctioned Spacety, a Chinese technology firm, for geolocating data to a private Russian military mercenary group which has fought alongside Moscow forces in war.

Russia has accessed a variety of items including smartphones, computers, washing machines, dishwashers and washing machines. Nuland stated that Russia is supplying goods through intermediaries in developing countries.

U.S. officials fear that the advanced semiconductor chips found in these products could potentially be used for military purposes.

“They can cannibalize this machinery to get the advanced chips that we have denied them so that they can make more rockets,” Nuland stated. “We will clamp down on that evasion starting tomorrow.”

The State Department is now more firm against Russia-friendly countries, as Nuland and other U.S. officials believe China’s ruling communist party may be considering. When asked by NBC if the Biden administration would share these suspicions, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre replied that they do not plan to but it is not out of the question.

Biden administration officials issued warnings to Beijing again this week, in hopes of deterring any potential arms trade to Russia.

“[Lethal aid] would be a complete step change,” Nuland stated. “Not only in how they are viewed globally and their claims of neutrality but also in our relationship with China.”

“This is not something that can be done under the carpet while China professes to be neutral.”

Sabrina Singh, the Deputy Pentagon Press secretary, warned of this at Wednesday’s Department of Defense press briefing “consequences” China would provide lethal assistance if they did. The Epoch Times asked her what these consequences might be. She didn’t respond.

“I don’t want to get ahead and forecast any of those consequences,” Singh stated.

Friday’s sanctions will also be applied to Russian companies involved in technology, military-affiliated, and financial industries.

To announce the new sanctions, President Joe Biden will be meeting virtually with other G7 leaders on Friday and with President Zelensky of Ukraine. Friday marks one year since Russia invaded Ukraine.
