The U.S. Navy P-8A reconnaissance airplane flew at 21,500ft, approximately 30 miles from the Paracel Islands, where China maintains military bases.

“American aircraft. Chinese airspace is 12 nautical miles,” Over the radio, a Chinese woman with the People’s Liberation Army said something about her country. “Not approaching any more or you bear all responsibility.”

The Report The interaction highlighted the serious tensions between the countries.

This incident occurs just one month after the U.S. detected a Chinese spy ball over U.S. Airspace on January 28th. It was later shot down off the coast South Carolina in February after President Joe Biden granted it permission to travel across the country, flying over sensitive military locations, for a period of one week.

This week, the U.S. military released another close-up photograph of the spy ballon. The photo was taken by the pilot from a U-2 spy airplane who was keeping an eye on the balloon as it flew above the U.S.

Glen David VanHerck Commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command – NORAD and United States Northern Command – USNORTHCOM The balloon was over 200 feet high and weighed in at over 200 pounds “in excess of a couple thousand pounds.”

After the spy ballon was downed, three additional unidentified objects were later taken down by the U.S. over Canada, Lake Huron and Alaska.

“It is also common for U.S. balloons to illegally enter the airspace of other countries,” Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, claimed that there is no evidence. “Since last year, U.S. high-altitude balloons have illegally flown over China’s airspace more than 10 times without the approval of Chinese authorities.”

Adrienne Watson, National Security Council spokesperson, said that communist nations’ claims were a fabrication and that China was trying not to be embarrassed by the situation they had created.

“It is China that has a high-altitude surveillance balloon program for intelligence collection, connected to the People’s Liberation Army, that it has used to violate the sovereignty of the United States and over 40 countries across five continents,” Watson tweeted.

“This is the latest example of China scrambling to do damage control,” She went on. “It has repeatedly and wrongly claimed the surveillance balloon it sent over the United States was a weather balloon and to this day has failed to offer any credible explanations for its intrusion into our airspace and the airspace of others.”
