DESANTIS: Governing With A Sense Of Urgency
We live in a strange time where narrative has taken over facts. I didn’t have any doubts that my flurry would be met with corporate media outlets. These outlets are like Republicans who refuse substantive action and accept leftist narratives. Indeed, during the coronavirus pandemic I was the governor most targeted for smears by corporate media and, since January 20, 2021, no Republican officeholder faced more consistent — and erroneous — attacks.
This is what leadership looks like in modern America. A governor who leads by aggressively pursuing policies that defy the leftist ideology of the nation’s elites will face fire — not only by the legacy media but also from activist groups, Big Tech, and corporate America.
Leaders must be willing and able to take the hits in order to be successful. Although it isn’t always easy, especially since so many of these attacks are blatant lies and not true, this is the price you must pay to exercise leadership. It is worth the price. While I was not able to change the dominant narrative about draconian coronavirus strategies, I was mocked by the usual suspects. However, I was able help save the livelihoods and millions of Floridaans. These Fauci-worshipping elites were not concerned for them, so it was my responsibility to protect Florida’s people from the biomedical security state.
Strong positions will cause backlash from the left media complex and could temporarily impact a leader’s political standing. Too often, elected officials allow immediate political considerations over doing the right thing. For example, when Florida led the nation on requiring schools to be open during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, we faced massive opposition — from Democrats, teacher unions, legacy media, and even some Republicans — such that public opinion was strongly against our policy. We stood up for parents and students, rather than following the current public impulse. We beat the unions in court. We defied all media hype that was completely disconnected from data. We have received overwhelming support for our decision as evidence supports it. Those who opposed us often don’t admit that they did.
