The FBI was the target of a large-scale attack in August. Many Republicans saw this raid in August as evidence that Trump was being targeted by the FBI, and that the DOJ was politicized.

They were also hesitant about making such a drastic decision and preferred to continue working alongside Trump and his legal team to secure classified documents in Mar-a-Lago.
After the 2016 Hillary Clinton Email Investigation and the investigation into Trump’s alleged ties to Russia which led Robert Mueller’s ex–special counsel investigation, it was prudent for the FBI not to appear too rigid in politically charged matters.
The DOJ’s prosecution team thought otherwise. They claimed that Trump should not be given special treatment, and that the classified documents at Mar-a-Lago were a security risk. Prosecutors said it was urgent to act to protect classified material before it is moved.
Numerous DOJ and FBI officials met with attorneys a week prior to the raid on Mar-a-Lago. Steven D’Antuono, then head of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, was present. D’Antuono is the one who conducted the raid at Mar-a-Lago. He also inquired about the scope and criminal investigation of Trump.
According to the Post Jay Bratt, the counterintelligence chief at DOJ, and other people supported the raid.
The argument was won by the prosecution and the FBI’s top brass agreed to support the raid. Merrick Garland, Attorney General, also signed off. Paul Abbate (Deputy FBI Director) gave D’Antuono the order to conduct the raid on Trump’s house. The bureau was quickly criticised after classified documents were discovered to be in Biden’s possession.

D’Antuono Retired The agency received the following information last year. The agency’s most controversial recent actions were led by this former FBI official. The Washington Field Office’s former FBI officer was D’Antuono. He was also the leader of the Detroit Field Office where he managed the lengthy investigation into militia members who attempted to kidnap Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
D’Antuono was elevated to the Washington Field Office where he managed the investigation into January 6, Capitol Riot. At the end November, he was fired from the FBI.
