The L.A. Archdiocese’s Catholic community was in a state of disarray; its Archbishop was Feel overwhelmed by grief During a press conference, representing those who organized prayer vigils in front of the home of the late bishop.

“Deeply shocked to learn of the tragic death of Auxiliary bishop David O’Connell,” stated Cardinal Pietro Parolin, speaking on behalf of Pope Francis. “He joins with you in giving thanks to Bishop O’Connell’s many years of dedicated priestly and Episcopal ministry in Los Angeles. He was especially marked by his deep concern for the poor and immigrants, his efforts in upholding the dignity and sanctity of God’s gift to life, and his passion for building solidarity, cooperation, and peace in the local community.

The statement continued, “To all those present at the mass of Christian burial and all who mourn Bishop O’Connell’s death in the sure hope for the resurrection, Holy Father cordially transmits his blessing as an offer of peace and consolation in God to them all.”

The grief was accompanied by the silence of Pope Francis, who made his comments during his funeral Wednesday Audience And Sunday Angelus The world’s most tragic events were highlighted, including the sinking of migrants off the coasts of Italy and terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso (the Holy Land) and Ukraine. But the death of one of their own was not mentioned.

Many took to social media to vent their shock, grief, and speculate about the motives behind the daytime murder of a U.S. Catholic bishop, given the slow stream of information from law enforcement, as well as the years of coverage on sex abuse scandals and financial corruption scandals.

The Daily Wire spoke exclusively to Bishop Robert Barron after Medina’s arrest. He was a former Auxiliary Bishop in Los Angelus. Unsupported speculationsRumormongering, gossip, and gossip found on Social media Several headlines were used to vilify his brother Bishop, and he was often criticized for it.

Barron said during a Zoom Call with The Daily Wire, “I think people that think that way are misguided.” This was shocking. It was extremely difficult to speak with some of my brothers bishops in California and elsewhere.

Barron was asked how he and other leaders of the church dealt with the grief and silence from Vatican. He replied, “What you do, is place it in God’s hands and trust God’s providence.” Anything God allows is ultimately conducive to some good that we may not see.

He continued, “No one understood that better than Bishop Dave O’Connell.” He was a man who was dedicated to his people and had a keen spiritual sensibility. He knew everything about Divine Providence and took it very seriously. He would always reach out to those who were in pain, even if their thoughts or actions were towards him.

Bishop Barron said that he discovered his friend’s death through a misunderstanding. Statement The Archdiocese of L.A. issued a statement stating that O’Connell “died unexpectedly”.

Barron explained that “So, I got the news that he was dead, and I was shocked at that.” “But then, the next day, I woke up to see these reports that he’d been shot. That just doubled or tripled my shock value. I’m still processing the shock, dismay and grief. We were close friends. Together, we were ordained as bishops. He was a man I admired and loved.

The Daily Wire reached out to Matteo Bruni, Holy See Press Office, on February 21st for comment about the murder and the arrest of the suspect following days of silence from Vatican. The Daily Wire did not receive a response, and neither did the Vatican when it was later questioned about why they were unable to issue a statement. As has been the norm. Past Clergy Murders.

The Daily Wire turned to Bishop Barron and asked him how he would describe himself to the pope.

“Bishop O’Connell had an aspect that was heavily involved in Charismatic Renewal. Barron said that O’Connell was involved in Deliverance Ministry, which helped people with severe psychological and spiritual suffering. He had a strong social justice side, evidently through his work with the poor as well as inner-city gangs.

He continued, “Some associate’social justice” with the Left’ church and the charismatic, liturgical and prayerful with the ‘Right’ church.” “Bishop O’Connell was both and didn’t fall into that (polarization). This was what I believe made him so attractive to many. That’s why he was called a Francis bishop. He had many of the virtues and qualities that Pope Francis speaks about. Pope Francis would be proud to hear all of that. He was a great man and a great bishop.
