Evidence Cannot Support Alberta Man’s Robbery Convictions: Supreme Court of Canada

Shawn Metzger was convicted in relation to a home invasion theft that occurred in Morningside (Alba.) in June 2017.
A man was struck in the head with a baseball bat. He was tied up after three or four masked burglars broke into his home and took his possessions. They then drove off in his truck.
The truck was located in Red Deer 11 hours later. Police found a cigarette bomb under the driver’s seat. DNA testing was performed on it.
Metzger was the only profile tested. The victim said that he might have heard Metzger’s last names during the robbery.
The Supreme Court remanded Metzger’s convictions, substituting verdicts of acquittal. It stated that written reasons would be forthcoming.
