Pentagon Papers Leaker Ellsberg Says He Has Terminal Cancer
WASHINGTON—Daniel Ellsberg, who copied and leaked documents that revealed secret details of U.S. strategy in the Vietnam War and became known as the Pentagon Papers, said he has terminal cancer and months to live.
Ellsberg wrote on Thursday on Facebook that doctors have diagnosed Ellsberg, a 91-year old man with pancreatic cancer. The diagnosis was made following medical scans.
He said that doctors had given him three to six months of life expectancy.
Ellsberg indicated that he decided not to receive chemotherapy but will continue to seek hospice care as needed.
Documents in the Pentagon Papers revealed in great detail how the Vietnam War was planned and executed. The Pentagon Papers revealed that top military officers and politicians were steadfast in their support of the U.S. and were impatient to see the results against North Vietnamese.
Ellsberg is a former Defense Department contractor and has provided Pentagon support.
