Police Thwart Attempts to Smuggle $1 Billion Worth of Cocaine Into Australia
A record amount of cocaine was intercepted by an international covert operation. This is the largest ever drug bust in Australia.
According to the Western Australian Police Force, 12 persons were detained by it on Saturday. One of them was an American who is allegedly connected with a Mexican cartel.
“It [the cocaine] represented more than half of the annual cocaine consumption in Australia as a whole. That is significant in itself,” David Palmer, detective senior sergeant, stated: a video WA police posted the following.
The WA police stated that “Operation Beech” The operation was initiated last November, after the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration intercepted nearly 2.4 tonnes worth of cocaine that had been bound for Australia from the South American coast.
Police in WA replaced the drug cargo with an inert material and the same packaging as the cartel, and it was dropped approximately 40 nautical miles west from Perth’s coast Dec. 28th 2022.
