Pastor Sees Celebration of Chinese Culture in Shen Yun

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—For many years, pastor Sean Keeley and his fiancée had wanted to see Shen Yun Performing Arts. On March 4, they were able to do so at Clowes Memorial Hall, Butler Arts Center.

“The skill, the intricate weaving between the costumes and the movement and utilization of technology and ancient forms of dance … is just brilliant,” According to Mr. Keeley.

Shen Yun is a New York-based dance and music company. It was founded in 2006, and has quickly become the most recognized and respected classical Chinese dance and music group in the world. Its mission it to restore traditional Chinese culture and present the beauty that China was before communism.

According to Shen Yun’s website, the traditional Chinese culture is deep rooted in the spiritual teachings Confucianism (Taoism) and Buddhism. All of these were abolished after the communist regime took power.

Pastor Keeley spoke out about his feelings regarding spiritual beliefs and Shen Yun.

“I think there’s a lot that can be understood about acceptance and tolerance; while there can be a discrepancy about what we believe is true, but the ability to treat people with respect and dignity should not be unique to anyone.”
