NHL roundup: Bruins bounce Rangers for 10th straight win
Charlie Coyle had a goal, and an assist that helped the Boston Bruins win a 4-2 victory against the New York Rangers.
The Bruins have also won 10 consecutive games thanks to Tomas Nosek and captain Patrice Bergeron. David Pastrnak was also a scorer. Boston’s win streak, which began Feb. 14, marks their first double-digit run in double digits since 2013-14’s 12-game span. Linus Ullmark saved 24 games for Boston.
Bergeron made the conversion in the 3rd period. Pastrnak completed the scoring with Pastrnak’s team-leading 44th goal. Tyler Bertuzzi was the one to give Coyle his primary assist. This came while he played in his first game as a Bruin. In a Thursday trade, Coyle was purchased from the Detroit Red Wings.
Alexis Lafreniere scored the goals, while Igor Shesterkin saved 20 shots for New York. New York fell to 2-5-1 after its eight last games.
Sabers 5, Lightning 3
Jeff Skinner, Tage Thompson, and Jeff Skinner each had a power-play goal as well as an assist to win the game for Buffalo over Tampa Bay.
Vinnie Hinostroza scored, Tyson Jost and Jack Quinn had goals. Eric Comrie (8-8-1), stopped 33 shots. Tampa Bay was awarded two markers by Alex Killorn in its first game of the eight-game road series. Brayden Point received one. Brian Elliott, goalie, made 29 saves.
Hinostroza’s second goal was scored at 5:35 after a battle on the boards behind Elliott. It gave Buffalo their first lead. Jost scored his sixth goal, his sixth backhanded. Quinn reached 4-1 and had his 12th marker in 14 seconds.
Islanders 4, Red Wings 1
In the third period, Captain Anders Lee got two goals and New York scored four unanswered goals to win in Elmont (N.Y.).
The Islanders also had Kyle Palmieri and Zach Parise scoring for them. They moved one point ahead the Pittsburgh Penguins to the top spot in Eastern Conference wild card. Ilya Sorokin saved 22 shots for the Islanders. In the second period, Captain Dylan Larkin scored and Magnus Hellberg recorded 32 saves to help the Red Wings (0-4-1).
In the last minute of the third period, the Islanders won the game with two insurance goals. With 4:19 remaining, Noah Dobson, a defenseman, shot from the slot and Palmieri scoring seconds later after Lee’s goal, Palmieri was stopped by Dobson.
Jets 7, Oilers 5,
In Winnipeg’s win over Edmonton, defense was ineffective as the leads came and went.
Josh Morrissey scored two goals and had an assist. Morgan Barron, Mark Scheifele, and Morgan Barron both had goals and assists. Connor Hellebuyck was a great stopper of 30 pucks, especially in the third.
With three goals and three assisters, Leon Draisaitl led Oilers. Evan Bouchard was third. Jack Campbell was able to make 32 saves. Connor McDavid had only one assist.
Senators 5, Blue Jackets 2,
Travis Hamonic, the defenseman, recorded his first two-goal career game. Tim Stutzle scored twice, Jacob Chychrun added one, and Jacob Chychrun assisted for his first Ottawa point. The hosts won their fifth consecutive victory over Columbus.
Hamonic was in his 13th season and had three goals at the start of this campaign. However, this year he broke through. Chychrun performed admirably in his second game after Ottawa bought him from Arizona. Stutzle’s goals were Nos. 30 and 31 — extending his career-high total. Ottawa has a 12-3-2-1 streak as it tries to get into the playoffs in Eastern Conference.
Patrik and Jack Roslovic scored goals for Columbus during the 4-2-2 period. After making 31 saves Friday night in Seattle’s 4-2 defeat, Elvis Merzlikins of the Blue Jackets gave up four goals from 23 shots and was pulled at 16:56 in the second.
Panthers 4 Penguins 1
Sam Bennett and Aleksander Barkov — both back from injuries — combined for one goal and two assists as host Florida defeated Pittsburgh in Sunrise, Fla.
Sergei Bobrovsky was the one to save 31 shots for the Panthers. They beat the Penguins after three attempts. Bennett scored one goal after having missed six consecutive games. Florida was also awarded goals by Aaron Ekblad and Eetu Liostarinen. Barkov had three missed games after sustaining a hand injury. He had 2 assists.
Casey DeSmith was the Pittsburgh’s saves hero with 38. Jason Zucker’s three-game streak of scoring goals was ended by the Penguins. Kris Letang scored for Pittsburgh, who lost their four-game winning streak.
Stars 7, Avalanche 3
Jason Robertson was able to score two goals and assist. Joe Pavelski scored a goal as well and Dallas won against Colorado.
Wyatt Johnston and Mason Marchment scored also goals. Radek Faksa had two assists, and Jake Oettinger made 32 saves.
Samuel Girard scored a goal for Colorado and assisted with two goals. Evan Rodrigues and Andrew Cogliano also scored. Alex Newhook added two assists while Keith Kinkaid made eight saves to relieve Alexandar Georgiev (5 goals, 14 saves). Seven goals have been conceded by the Avalanche in consecutive games.
Capitals 8, Sharks 3
Craig Smith was credited with two goals in Washington’s second period. San Jose rallied to win.
Washington’s Alex Ovechkin had two goals in the third period for Washington. Washington has already won two of three California games. Rasmus Sandin and Gabriel Carlsson both had three assists in their Capitals debuts. Vincent Iorio received an assist during his NHL debut, while Darcy Kuemper saved 38 times.
At 12:03 in the first period, the Sharks had a 1-0 advantage on a power-play. Karlsson handed to Tomas Hertl and Hertl powered to the net. Kuemper saved the original save. Alexander Barabanov, who scored at 15:30 from the edge of the crease after receiving a Logan Couture pass, made it 2-0. Washington scored five goals unanswered to take the lead.
Predators 3 – Blackhawks 1
Colton Sissons, Tyson Barrie, and Philip Tomasino scored in Nashville’s win over Chicago.
Juuse Sáros was the Predators’ savior with 27 saves. They have now won five of six. Barrie’s goal was the game-winner, as it was his first in Nashville since being purchased before the trade deadline.
Seth Jones scored while Petr Mrazek had 22 saves. The Blackhawks have now lost four consecutive games after an impressive five-game win streak.
Canucks 4, Maple Leafs 1
J.T. Miller scored two short-handed goals in 44 seconds to help Vancouver beat Toronto.
Andrei Kuzmenko, Nils Aman and Pettersson each scored goals for Vancouver. This extended its win streak at home to six consecutive games over Toronto. Brock Boeser also added two assists.
John Tavares scored in Toronto, and Matt Murray saved 20 times after sustaining an ankle injury on Jan. 17.
Wild 3, Flames 0.
Joel Eriksson Ek was assisted by Matt Boldy, while Filip Gustavsson scored his second shutout in his career as Minnesota beat Calgary.
Marcus Foligno scored also for the Wild. The Wild have won 4 straight and are now on an 8-0-1 record. Gustavsson was able to save 31 shots in his campaign’s second shutout. Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves for the Flames. The Flames have now dropped five games in a row and are currently down to two wins in their past 10 matches (2-5-3).
Gustavsson’s club’s inability to contain Calgary’s offensive players made it a very easy night at the pipes. He saved Tyler Toffoli from a shorthanded breakaway mid-third period.
Kings 4, Blues 2.
Gabriel Vilardi had 3:03 remaining and scored a tiebreaking powerplay goal. Los Angeles held onto their win over visiting St. Louis.
Vilardi was awarded a pass from Kevin Fiala in front of his net. He spun and scored, giving the Kings the third lead of their game. Fiala scored an empty net goal, making it 4-2 at 1:56.
Fiala was credited with a goal, an assist and Carl Grundstrom were also able to score. Adrian Kempe and Adrian Kempe scored as well. Joonas Korpisalo saved 24 shots in his first team appearance for the Kings. Korpisalo, a veteran goalie Jonathan Quick was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Korpisalo. Robert Thomas and Kasperi
Kapanen was the winner, while Jordan Binnington saved 34 games for the Blues who lost seven out of eight.
