Israeli forces carried out a raid on Jenin, West Bank City on Tuesday to kill a Hamas operative. He had killed two Israeli brothers back in February.
Six people were killed in the raid, one of them being the target individual. Five other victims were confirmed to have been killed by militants. These groups could have been Hamas, Islamic Jihad, or al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades.
Israeli forces occupied the house of a refugee in camp. Large crowds congregated at camp’s entrances, setting fire to tires to stop Israeli forces leaving. As drones and gunships flew overhead, Israeli air support was visible.
The fighting resulted in three injuries to Israeli troops and the destruction of two drones.
Abdul Fattah Kharushah (49), a militant member of Hamas, was the victim of the raid. Kharushah was suspected of killing Hillel Yaniv (21), and Yigal (19), as they drove through Hawara, on February 26, 2008.Th.
Kharushah, who was being surrounded in Jenin by Israeli troops and then was shot at with rockets, was taken prisoner.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, praised Israeli forces for their raid.
“Our brave warriors operated surgically in the heart of the murderers’ den,” He stated. “I praise them and send recovery wishes to the wounded from among our forces. As I say again and again, time and time again: Whoever hurts us — his blood is on his head.”
Mohammad Shtayyeh, Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, condemned the attack and called upon President Joe Biden for greater efforts to stop Israeli attacks on Palestine.
On Wednesday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will arrive in Israel in an attempt to support Biden’s appeals to Israel for a reduction in their West Bank raids.
Austin will also be expected to support the Biden administration’s views on the Palestinian Authority making a greater effort against militant groups inside their borders.
In 2023 there have been greater violence in Israel, the West Bank and Jerusalem than in any other decade. Palestinian terrorists killed 14 Israelis, and more than 60 Palestinians were injured in Israeli military raids.
Jenin camp remains largely ungoverned. Palestinian security personnel rarely enter the zone and do not transfer control to other armed groups.
