Here’s What To Know About Lori Vallow Daybell, The ‘Doomsday Mom’ Charged With Killing Her Children
Lori Vallow Daybell, once a loving mom and a contestant in the ‘Survivors Challenge’ was once Lori Vallow Daybell. “Wheel of Fortune,” And a beauty pageant competitor.
At one point however her religious views turned more extreme. She began to call people who don’t agree with her beliefs “Nazis”. “zombies,” Who needed to be addressed. When her ideas began to become absurd, people around her died, including Tylee Ryan (her 16-year old daughter from a previous union) and Joshua Jaxon (her adopted 7 year-old son). “J.J.” Vallow.
There isn’t one single moment Lori was at her lowest point, but many think it was the time she met Chad Daybell (a married man who wrote doomsday stories and religious books).
Lori, along with Joseph Ryan Jr. her second husband, had their first child in 1996. He was named Colby. Tylee arrived in 2002. Ryan, Lori later divorced. Ryan allegedly abuse Lori and her children. Lori wed Charles Vallow in February 2006. Charles raised Colby (and Tylee) as his children.
Charles Vallow was the nephew of Charles Vallow, and in 2012 they had a boy, J.J. Charles adopted J.J. at 2 years old. At the end of 2014 the family relocated to Kauai in Hawaii and to Phoenix suburbs, Arizona by mid-2017. Chad Daybell and Lori met one year later. Soon, their lives changed.
Vallow filed for Divorce from Lori on February 8, 2018. She claimed she threatened to murder him if he stopped her preparations for Jesus Christ’s second coming. Daybell stated that it would be in July 2020. Vallow called Lori to report the threat of murder and asked her to be admitted to a mental hospital to get treatment. Lori spoke with police, and it seemed that Vallow was speaking, rather than Lori.
On July 11, 2019, Alex Cox (Lori’s brother) called police in Chandler Arizona. He said that he had shot and killed Charles Vallow out of self-defense. Lori told her friends and relatives a variety of versions about Vallow’s death, including suicide, heart attack, or self-defense. Vallow’s children, from her previous marriage, received a text message by Lori about Vallow’s death. However she stopped answering their questions. Alex Cox wasn’t charged with the death.
Shortly after Charles Vallow’s death, Lori tried to collect on his million-dollar life insurance policy — only to learn that he switched the beneficiary to his sister, who is J.J.’s grandmother. Lori is reported to have never allowed J.J.’s grandparents to see her again.
Colby was now living on his own, with his wife. He was safe from all the horrors to come.
Lori and Tylee, together with J.J., made the move to Rexburg in Idaho to be near Daybell. Daybell said that a voice had told them to make this move for Christ’s second coming. Lori took Tylee, J.J., and Alex to Yellowstone National Park in September 2019. Tylee never saw again.
J.J. became autistic two weeks later. He was last seen at school in Idaho on September 23. Lori told the school that J.J. would be attending homeschooling instead.
Lori’s nephew in-law, Charles Vallow, was killed during a drive-by shooting that took place in Gilbert on October 2, 2019. Charles Vallow (Lori’s ex-husband) was the registered owner of the vehicle. He had been deceased for several months.
Chad Daybell’s spouse Tammy phoned police to inform them that Chad Daybell had attempted to gun down Tammy in her garage using what she thought was an airsoft paintball gun. Tammy died in her house ten days later. Although initially her death was ruled natural by police, they have opened an investigation.
Lori got married to Chad Daybell, less than a month following Tammy’s passing in Hawaii.
On the request of his grandmother, three weeks later Lori Daybell and Daybell returned home to Idaho, police did a welfare search on J.J. Lori stated that J.J. was in Arizona with his family and Tylee had left for Brigham Young University. People are now starting to wonder where J.J. or Tylee went. Lori and Daybell suddenly left their Idaho home and began searching for them.
Soon after Lori lost her brother Alex to a suspected blood clot in Gilbert, Arizona on 12/12/2012. The family knew of the illness and did not investigate his death.
Police in Rexburg (Idaho) officially launched an investigation into J.J.’s disappearance on December 20. Lori was served with a court order by the judge to bring her children back within five days. Daybell and she return to Kauai.
After Lori was given the deadline for producing the children, the police started to build the foundations to make Lori an arrest. On February 20, 2020 Lori was arrested in Kauai by police and charged with desertion as well as nonsupporting dependent children.
Police were conducting a search of Chad Daybell’s Idaho property on June 9, 2020. That is when Tylee’s and J.J.’s bodies were discovered. Daybell attempted to run from the scene but was captured and charged with two felonies of destruction, alteration or concealment.
Lori Daybell, Daybell, and others would not face charges for the murders in court until May 25, 2021. Tammy Daybell, Daybell’s former wife, was also indicted. Lori was sent into a mental facility for competency evaluation. Finally, Lori was found competent enough to stand trial.
Lori und Daybell started their trials at the beginning of March separated Judge. Lori will be facing trial on April 3. Daybell will follow shortly. Lori attempted to dismiss the charges against Lori for not having a speedy court case since her arrest nearly three decades ago.
Lori and Daybell face each the death penalty if they are convicted.
