What We Weren’t Shown About January 6

Karine Jean Pierre, White House Press Secretary, stated that January 6th was the date. “the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.” Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority leader explained that the January 6 riot was not a riot. “violent insurrection.” Schumer said that Fox News must remove Tucker Carlson from the air in order to protect democracy.

Tell me, Carlson, what was it that prompted the Senate majority leader to call for his suppression. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (Republican from California) gave him access to 41,000 hours of footage from January 6. He aired a special that showed two of the most important pieces of tape. First, tape of Capitol Police walking with Jacob Chansley through hallways. Second, tape of Officer Brian Sicknick gesturing animatedly towards fellow officers, after he was attacked outside.

Based on tapes, Carlson appeared to minimize the violence. He stated, “A small percentage of them were hooligans. But the overwhelming majority weren’t. They were peaceful. They were orderly and meek. These were not insurrectionists – they were sightseers.”

It is certain that a riot occurred on January 6. A number of police officers sustained injuries in the riot. Around 1,000 people were detained. But Carlson isn’t wrong that the tape appears to show some of the people in the Capitol wandering around aimlessly, not violently, or that the media’s original portrayal of Sicknick’s death – it was widely reported that he had been directly murdered by the crowd – was incorrect.

Carlson’s framing is up for debate. I disagree. However, it’s clear that January 6, however ugly it may have been, was an riot. “danger to our democracy”The fact that most of the Capitol’s residents were actually gawking, rather than rioting. And that the January 6- committee made every effort to show certain footage while avoiding other footage. The January 6 Committee and media made a decision to not allow any nuance to be given to the riots. Instead, they decided that there was no acceptable narrative. This was because a riot was insurrection and that this insurrection was threatening the overthrow and continuation of conservative movements. Any evidence that could have been used to support this overblown narrative was rejected.

According to some, silence was the best method to prevent that narrative from spreading. Schumer’s appeal to silence Carlson is exactly why Carlson’s report was viral. They keep exaggerating stories, hiding countervailing info, then trying to censor anyone who presents such information. The landmines explode and people are stunned at the result.

According to media elites and our media, we couldn’t get the footage so that we wouldn’t draw incorrect conclusions. Here’s the problem. The best method to stop the American people deriving incorrect conclusions from the footage is to provide them with all evidence. After that, let them make their own decisions. This is exactly what elites of our media and in the Democratic Party won’t permit.
