Robert Redfield was the former director of CDC and testified to Congress about his research into COVID-19.
Redfield addressed questions about Dr. Fauci’s 2020 hypothesis regarding the origins COVID-19, appearing before a House subcommittee. Trump’s former CDC director claimed that he believed the virus had been leaked from a Wuhan, China lab. Redfield claimed that Fauci had encouraged the idea that COVID-19 spread from infected animals to humans in 2020. Some have argued that Fauci’s theory was a deflection of attention to research that supports the notion that the United States sponsored China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Redfield received questions from Jim Jordon (Republican, Ohio) who confirmed Redfield’s long-held beliefs that opposing perspectives on the virus’ origin were intentionally silenced by Dr. Fauci as well as the Biden administration.
Three years ago, you might have thought [COVID-19} came from a lab, you were called a nut job. You got censored on Twitter,” said Jordon. “You were even called a “crackpot” by the very scientists who in late January sent emails to Dr. Fauci and said [the virus] It was obtained from a laboratory.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene (Republican from Georgia) asked Redfield questions about the scientific makeup of the virus. Redfield stated that COVID-19 did not come from nature, and was instead created in a lab by humans.
“[The Wuhan lab] published in 2014 that they had created a COVID virus that would bind to the H2 receptor in humanized mice,” Redfield. “The only way they did that was by re-orienting the [human] binding domain.”
Wednesday’s House sub-committee hearing was engineered by House Republicans following recent findings published by the U.S. Department of Energy that now believes that the COVID-19 pandemic began with a lab leak in Wuhan, China.
