McCarthy blames Biden for stalled debt ceiling negotiations
SPeaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) Joe Biden is being blamed by the Republican Party for not negotiating over the debt ceiling On Wednesday, he slowed down and told reporters that he hasn’t reached out to the president for a second meeting since their last month-end meeting.
McCarthy’s remarks follow. House briefing Phillip Swagel, director of the Congressional Budget Office was present at the meeting. The speaker met on Wednesday just one day prior to the White House’s unveiling Biden’s budget blueprint.
“No, he hasn’t reached back out. He told me once that he would. I believe eventually he will, but that’s a month wasted. That’s a month that brings more doubt financially; that’s a month that hurts Americans. The sooner we get together, the better off all America will be, so I’m looking forward to him being willing to sit down and be able to move this forward,” McCarthy stated.
Conservatives insist that they won’t support the White House and congressional Democrats demanding a clean debt ceiling increase. They also demand spending cuts in any agreement.
