New York Prosecutors Signal Trump Likely Facing Criminal Charges; Trump Responds: Report
According to reports, Alvin L. Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney, has indicated to Donald Trump’s legal team the possibility of him facing criminal charges for his role in hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels during 2016.
The New York Times reported Trump has been given the opportunity to testify in front of the grand jury which is hearing evidence in the case.
“The Manhattan District Attorney’s threat to indict President Trump is simply insane,” A Trump spokesperson said this in a statement. “It’s an embarrassment to the Democrat prosecutors, and it’s an embarrassment to New York City.”
According to the report, Trump was offered the opportunity to testify “almost always indicates an indictment is close” And that it would be “unusual” District attorneys must give potential defendants this notification “without ultimately seeking charges against” them.
Five years have elapsed since the criminal investigation into Trump’s $130,000 hush-money payment to Daniels. Daniels claims that she had an affair. This case concerns a payment made by former Trump attorney Michael Cohen to Daniels, which was during the election. Cohen pleaded guilty to felony charge.
Daniels’ representatives reached out to the National Enquirer regarding her story. However, the publication refused to buy the exclusive rights. Cohen and Daniels were represented by the publisher.
Trump’s problem is with Cohen’s company for the hush money. The expense was categorized as a legal expense. Cohen’s retainer agreement was cited by the company. Cohen was not able to provide legal services and there was no retainer agreement. The reimbursement did not relate to Cohen’s legal services. Thus, the company could be facing a criminal misdemeanor for falsifying business records.
According to the report, prosecutors could make the misdemeanor a felony if they can prove Trump’s guilt. “‘intent to defraud’ included an intent to commit or conceal a second crime.”
Prosecutors claim that the second crime was that $130,000 of hush money was an illegal donation to Trump’s campaign. The money was used to stop stories for Trump’s benefit.
Trump would be sentenced to a maximum of four year imprisonment if convicted. However, this is not mandatory.

Trump claimed that the probe was a sham. “political Witch-Hunt” He was not guilty of any other offenses. “beating all Republicans and Democrats badly in the Presidential race.”
“It is appalling that the Democrats would play this card and only means that they are certain that they cannot win at the voter booth, so they have to go to a tool that has never been used in such a way in our country, weaponized law enforcement,” He claimed.
