Trump Access Hollywood tape can be played at Jean Carroll trial: Judge

Federal judges will grant the “so-called” Access Hollywood tape will be shown at the defamation hearing against the former President Donald Trump Submitted by E. Jean CarrollNew Yorker, who claims he raped her almost three decades ago.

The 23-page opinion U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, New York Borough of Manhattan, issued a Friday ruling rejecting Trump’s attempts to prevent Carroll from bringing two female witnesses that he accused of assaulting them during the years prior to his political ambitions.

Trump, at 76, had opposed allowing Carroll to show the 2005 recording of his highly-criticized remarks on a hot-mic. Access Hollywood Billy Bush, the host, claimed it was not relevant to the trial. Trump said crudely that fame and notoriety would allow men to grope women.

Kaplan wrote Friday, that Trump’s alleged conduct towards women was central to Carroll’s claim in her defamation lawsuit.

“Most of the evidence that Mr. Trump seeks to keep from the trial jury is to the effect that Mr. Trump allegedly has abused or attempted to abuse women other than Ms. Carroll in ways that are comparable to what he allegedly did to Ms. Carroll,” Kaplan wrote in his verdict.

Trump has strongly denied raping Carroll. He claims that he sexually assaulted Carroll in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room after an alleged encounter in 1995 or 1996.

Carroll, who is 79 years old, asserts in one her suits that the former President defamed Carroll after she died in 2019. She made her claim public By claiming she lied and stating that the allegation had been motivated by politics or money

“In other words,” Kaplan stated, “Ms. Carroll offers the evidence to show that Mr. Trump has a propensity for such behavior.”
