House Freedom Caucus Vows to End ‘Wasteful, Woke, Weaponized Bureaucracy’
America is burdened with a “wasteful, woke, weaponized bureaucracy” Leaders of the House Freedom Caucus stated that this must be controlled when they announced their budget proposal. It focuses on reducing national debt and burdensome federal regulations.
According to a March 10th statement, the caucus stated its position on national debt. It said it would consider raising the debt ceiling if it was accompanied by legislation to reduce current spending, limit future spending, and decrease the size and reach federal bureaucracy.
“We can solve our debt crisis responsibly if we shrink Washington and grow America,” Scott Perry, Chairman of the Caucus (Republican-Pa.), stated this at a press conference on March 10.
“Members of the House Freedom Caucus are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work voting now on these proposals, and we’re willing to do it today,” He stated.
The caucus proposal was made public a day following the publication of President Joe Biden’s budget proposal. It stands out in stark contrast.
The Caucus Plan
The proposed spending cuts include ending Biden’s plan for student loan forgiveness, eliminating COVID-19 aid funds that have not been obligated and spent, and recovering funds used to hire IRS officers and climate change-related funding from the Inflation Reduction Act.
According to the caucus for a $10 trillion savings over ten years, limiting discretionary spending at 2022 levels would eliminate $131 billion from next year’s federal budget and result in a $3 trillion reduction in the federal budget.
Perry said that Congress could do so if it had to address the top priorities facing the nation.
“When we shrink Washington this way, it enables Congress to use the appropriations process to address the many abuses and disasters caused by the Biden administration, such as the chaos at our southern border, the COVID vaccine, the COVID vaccine mandates and the associated discriminatory policies, and the unconstitutional ATF rules just to name a few.”
According to the caucus statement, the discretionary spending cap would also protect Social Security retirement benefits and Medicare benefits.
The caucus plan seeks to stimulate the economy by reducing regulations, increasing energy production and restoring work requirements on welfare programmes.
Freedom Caucus members seem confident that their plan can succeed in the House of Representatives.
The caucus is made up of many of the same members that forced Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., to make concessions in his race for Speaker of House. This gives them significant leverage within the party.
“This HFC plan on the debt ceiling is the path forward for getting 218 Republican votes in the House,” NTD Television was informed by a Freedom Caucus senior staffer.
“We believe that Republicans can, and should, unite around this debt ceiling plan,” Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.
Contrasting Visions
The Freedom Caucus vision is completely opposite the vision behind President Trump’s budget plan.
“Today, extreme MAGA House Republicans showed us what they value: tax breaks for the super wealthy and wasteful spending for special interests,” Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary, stated March 10. “This is a blueprint for selling out the middle class, law enforcement, and American competitiveness.”
“Their entire program does not lower the deficit one single penny,” In a press conference held March 10, the president stated these words.
Biden claimed that to renew Trump’s tax cuts would be nearly $2 trillion. Without adding taxes elsewhere, this would require a 25% reduction in federal programs.
“But I’m prepared,” The president stated. “I told the speaker as soon as he’s ready to lay out his budget, I’m ready to sit down.”
