Vinyl records top CDs in sales for the first time in 35 years

IIt may just be nostalgia, Vinyl records Sales last year were higher than CDs

Vinyl records outsold CDs for the first time since 1987 — that’s over 30 years. According to estimates, 41 million vinyl records were sold in 2022. This is 8 million more than the 33,000,000 CDs. Report Recording Industry Association of America released this Thursday.

Vinyl record sales beating music CD sales follows the trend of growing demand for vinyl — sales have increased steadily for the last 16 years. Vinyl records account for 71% of all physical format revenue and grew by 17% to $1.2Billion in 2022.

In 2021 and 20,22, vinyl saw an increase in demand following the appearance of the Pandemic COVID-19.

The demand for CDs declined by 18% to $483 Million in 2022.
