Eight dead after suspected smuggling boat crashes on California coast

A After a boat suspected of being smuggling crashed into Black’s Beach, at least eight people were killed. California Officials say it was Saturday night.

San Diego Police have confirmed that eight bodies were found in the water. Although search and rescue efforts were slowed by thick fog overnight and Coast Guard and San Diego Fire-Rescue helicopters, and a Coast Guard cutter, they were expected to continue to monitor the area early Sunday for additional victims. According to The Los Angeles Times.

“We couldn’t get any helicopters up. We had boats in the water, but at first light, once all the conditions clear, we will have Coast Guard out here and San Diego Fire-Rescue and lifeguards doing a joint search through the water for any possible victims that are left,” Daniel Eddy is San Diego Fire-Rescue’s Deputy Chief Operations.

Eddy also stated that helicopters are available from both the Fire Coast guard and department tried to climb into the air but were prevented by the weather conditions. Although the Coast Guard managed to lift a helicopter into the air, it was difficult to see any objects or people in the water due to fog.

Eddy stated that a Coast Guard frigate was also deployed in the area.

San Diego police received an alert at 11:30 on Saturday about the situation from a woman who was on the boat that reached shore. Police say that the woman dialled 911 and claimed that one of her boats had been lost. The woman Also, she stated that she had been to the United States from Mexico.
