6 Woke Moments From The Academy Awards
No matter what, the 95th Annual Academy Awards was sure to be less dramatic than last years’ show.
Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock on stage last year. The Academy received a lot of criticism for not responding quickly enough. Some people think the Oscars were a bit too cautious. Or, to put it another manner, more boring than normal. It meant that the Oscars had to cut down on the predictable political rhetoric that is used at every awards show.
Even though Jimmy Kimmel tried to make light-hearted jokes, there were still instances during the Oscars that fully demonstrated the leftist tendencies of the Hollywood community. Was conservatives expecting anything more?
1. “Everything Everywhere All At Once” director defends drag queens
The sci-fi indie flick was the night’s biggest winner “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” This is a completely out-of-the box project about Michelle Yeoh, a Chinese-American immigrant who must connect to parallel universe versions of her self in order to stop the destruction of the multiverse. The film won seven Oscars, including Best Picture.
Daniel Scheinert was the movie’s director. He used his Oscars acceptance speech for a defense of people who wear drag, including children. “We want to dedicate this to the mommies, all the mommies in the world, to our moms,” Scheinert said.
“Specifically my mom and dad … thank you for not squashing my creativity when I was making really disturbing horror films, or really perverted comedy films, or dressing in drag as a kid, which is a threat to nobody!” He said that he was likely referring to recent legislation in some states that would ban the performance of sexually explicit drag before children.
2. “Top Gun: Maverick” Snubbed
Nobody expected the hugely successful sequel. “Top Gun: Maverick” Tom Cruise skipped the ceremony to avoid winning an Academy Award. Fans marvelled that this pro-America, pro masculinity movie had been nominated.
Zeeshan Aleem (MSNBC editor and opinion writer) summarized the feelings most leftists have about it “Top Gun” As part of a weekend column. The writer called the message in this blockbuster film’s blockbuster “The message” in it. “insidious,” “poisonous,” And “literal propaganda.”
“I hope it tanks at the Oscars,” Aleem ended. “It’s possible to make thrilling action without so brazenly priming the public for warfare.”
“Maverick” Despite being loved by millions and earning more than $1.4 million worldwide, it didn’t win any awards. Kimmel also made a few jokes about the film’s shortcomings. “saved” Hollywood is all about getting people back to the cinemas.
The film won the Oscar “Best Sound” It was not nominated in any of the six other categories.
3. Jimmy Kimmel has added a January 6 dig
Given how liberals cannot go more than 15 mins without talking about January 6, it shouldn’t surprise that the host couldn’t resist making jokes about it.
Kimmel also introduced the film editing category and made a joke of Tucker Carlson, Fox News host.
“Anyone who’s ever received a text message from their father knows how important editing is,” The late-night host laughed. “Editors do amazing things,” He continued. “Edits can turn 44,000 hours of violent insurrection footage into a respectful sight-seeing tour of the Capitol.”
4. Feminism is highlighted during a “Women Talking” Speech
In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, “Women Talking” Sarah Polley, the director, made a joke about her acceptance speech. “Best Adapted Screenplay.”
“First of all, I just want to thank the Academy for not being mortally offended by the words ‘women’ and ‘talking’ put so close together like that,” Polley said. Her speech was ended by her addressing her children and saying: “Your story will be different from ours.”
Polley adapted “Women Talking” From the 2018 novel of the same name. Miriam Toews created the story. It is about a group Mennonite females who are forced to make a decision after being repeatedly sexually assaulted.
5. Kimmel makes fun of Hunter Biden
The laptop story isn’t fake, at least not according to leftists.
Kimmel joked that he said this during his opening monologue. “The Fabelmans” Seth Rogen, actor and director Steven Spielberg were honored “Joe and Hunter Biden of Hollywood.” This joke received a lot of applause from the star-studded audience.
6. George Santos is the butt of jokes
Another political joke was made at Congressman George Santos (R–NY), who became a public embarrassment after admitting that he was a homosexual. “terrible liar.” It was discovered that he had lied about his Jewish heritage, as well as his education, work, and charity work. His mother also died on the 11th of September.
“Did you know … the last directing team to win an Oscar was Congressman George Santos?” Kimmel made a joke about one point in the evening.
Bonus: Michelle Yeoh makes fun of Don Lemon
Michelle Yeoh won the Oscar Award for Best Actress. She made a subtle reference to Don Lemon, a left-leaning CNN host,’s comments about Nikki Haley (R), being an Oscar Award winner. “past her prime.”
Yeoh was the first Asian person to receive an Academy Award.
“For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities,” The 60-year-old star spoke out.
“This is proof that dreams, dream big, and dreams do come true. And ladies, don’t ever let anyone tell you you are ever past your prime. Never give up!”
