All Democrats On Homeland Security Committee Pull Out From Attending Hearing In Field On Border Crisis
In a Monday evening statement, Mark Green (R-NC), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee said that all Democrats have withdrawn from attending a hearing on the ground about President Joe Biden’s ongoing crisis at America’s southern border.
This news comes at a time when the administration has witnessed a historic flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S., which is mostly due to Biden’s policies acting as magnets for migrants and cartel-smugglers. The New York Times reported The Mexican drug cartels saw a staggering increase in their human smuggling profits last year. They made $500 million per year in 2018, and $13 billion by 2022. This is a 2,500% increase.
“It’s deeply disappointing that the Minority members of the Committee have chosen to bail on this week’s full committee field hearing in Texas, only after they invited and confirmed a minority witness for one of the panels,” Green stated this in a statement. “The only message their absence sends is that they are uninterested in coming to the table to have a conversation about the devastation that this border crisis is having on Americans and their communities across the country. We will continue to encourage our Democrat colleagues to get out of the DC echo chamber and meet Americans where they are to discuss the biggest issues facing them.”
Bennie Thompson (D–MS) a ranking member claimed that Democrats would not be participating because “it has become clear that Republicans planned to politicize this event from the start.”
“Instead of a fact-finding mission to develop better border security and immigration policies, Republicans are traveling to the border to attack the Administration and try to score political points with their extreme rhetoric,” Thompson erroneously Claim. “Committee Democrats are in regular contact with Department leadership and stakeholders on the ground and will be taking substantive site visits to the border – including as soon as this week.”
All Democrats in the House Homeland Security committee will boycott Wednesday’s field hearing about the border crisis in the RGV. They will miss the testimony of Chief Raul Ortiz from the United States Border Patrol. @USBPChiefFederal witness, he is scheduled to testify.
