You’ve probably heard of the theory that “failed states” All the rage in international relationships.
It’s something like this. A state known as a failed state is one that has lost its ability to effectively govern its citizens. A government that is unable to tax, police or manage its citizens, its territory or maintain its infrastructure are all signs of a failed state. These states are often plagued by rising political and criminal violence, losing control over borders, increasing ethic, religious and racial hostilities and sometimes civil conflict or war.
To describe and build these indexes, most political scientists use the following frameworks:
- Factionalized Elites
- Group Grievance
- Economic Decline and Poverty
- Uneven Economic Development
- Brain Drain and Human Flight
- Lacking State Legitimacy
- Poor Public Services
- Few Human Rights and Rule of Law
- Demographic Pressures
- Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees
- Interventions from the outside
When you look at the most recent lists of failed states, you find a desperate lot of country rankings, led by Yemen, Somalia, Syria, South Sudan, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Sudan, Afghanistan, Chad, Myanmar, Haiti, Guinea, Mali, and Zimbabwe (the list goes on…).
I’d like to change that understanding and the locus to attention and suggest we dial inward to begin to notice how many people are noticing us. Own The US is home to nearly all of these states. “failing states.” This has severe consequences for the country, its governors and local communities. Clearly, the US is moving in the wrong direction on many of these measurable outcomes and certain states — are leading in that downward spiral.
Which US country has the highest rate of crime?
Washington, DC had the highest property crime rate since 2020, at 3,493 crimes per 100,000 residents. This was 21% lower than Louisiana which had the next highest property crime rate. California is the most dangerous state with 3,498 homicides. Texas comes in second with 2,993 murders. Certain cities like Memphis, Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, are the worst of the worst and the numbers are only escalating making many American cities — unlivable. They are failing cities.
Which US state is the poorest?
Mississippi (19.58%) Louisiana (18.65%), New Mexico (18.55%) West Virginia (17.10%) West Virginia (17.10%) Kentucky (16.61%) and Arkansas (16.08%) had the highest poverty rates. The rate of poverty has not been declining, and it is not racially based. California is the state with the worst records, with half its large population living below poverty level. Joel Kotkin, a sociologist and demographer has stated that California is now an “amazing” state. “feudal society” Millionaires living in gated communities controlling the serfs at the bottom.
Which states have the highest infant death rates?
This measure rates Mississippi, Arkansas and South Dakota as the worst. These numbers are closer to third world countries that are very poor than their developed counterparts.
Which states have the greatest tax burden?
California wins this category with a personal income and sales tax of 12.3% and 7.3% respectively. Wyoming is the lowest-taxed state, with no sales tax and an income tax of 0.4%. Nineteen states don’t have an income tax; five do not have sales taxes. The worst states for taxes overall are California, New Jersey and Vermont.
Which state has the worst infrastructure?
West Virginia and Rhode Island are also in the list. California is ranked number one in roads and power grid.
Und the highest unemployment?
The highest unemployment rates are found in Nevada, Illinois and Washington, DC. As many people have left the workforce, particularly men, participation rates are lower across the country.
What states don’t control the border?
US border authorities encountered more than two million migrants in fiscal 2022, according to US Customs and Border Protection figures released in October – up from 1.7 million in 2021. This number will rise to over 4.5million in 2023. The southern border is the most problematic, but it is severely affecting all other states. The US does not have control over its borders.
What is the evidence of the disintegration of family, school, and civic life?
The worst states for family breakdown, divorcing and social capital are:
Pew Research ranked Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska and Kentucky as the lowest-ranking states.
California and New York are the two states with high levels of homelessness, both in crisis.
Which states have the highest rates for drug addiction and overdose?
The most serious drug problems are found in West Virginia and New Hampshire, Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois. San Francisco and Portland have worse drug problems than any state.
You can see that many US states are struggling to compete with their peers if you take all of this data and massage it in cocktail-style. There is one state that comes closest to the failing category, and it is this state.
California is the state in question. Edward Ring has made this argument (see: https://amgreatness.com/author/edwardring/page/3/The golden state is no longer very golden. It is falling, and it is near the bottom of the list of US states. California is definitely not an example of how to replicate it. It has not been a success, and people are leaving the state in droves.
A new game asks players to guess 50 reasons why California is considered the worst state. (See: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/261-politics/64933951.
Why is California so different from Reagan’s greatness?
It is governed by a single party Democrat-Socialist governing structure, and it is determined to turn the state into a lunatic asylum. Victor Davis Hanson stated that the real culprit is “a polarity of importing massive poverty from south of the border while pandering to those who control unprecedented wealth in Silicon Valley, Hollywood, the tourism industry, and the marquee universities. Massive green regulations and boutique zoning, soaring taxes, increasing crime, identity politics and tribalism, and radical one-party progressive government were force multipliers.”
California now ranks second on the list of “Top 100” states. “shithole” These countries are not included in the above list.
