San Francisco considering $5M payout reparations plan

San Francisco cThe ity officials are contemplating adopting a Repairs Plan that would provide $5 million in payments for all eligible black adults in the United States. This proposal is unmatched in terms of its range and details.

On Tuesday, a special San Francisco Board of Supervisors hearing took place. The payout was accompanied by recommendations such as eliminating personal debt and tax burdens and guaranteed annual incomes of minimum $97,000 for 250-years. Homes in San Francisco are available for $1 per family. per The Associated Press.

According to the news outlet, a conservative estimate by Stanford University’s Hoover Institution stated that the reparations plan would have a cost of at least $600,000.

The hearing lasted for more than five hours and the board eventually unanimously accepted the draft plan from the African American Reparations Advisory Committee. According to Axios. The acceptance does not specify which recommendations will be approved by the board.

The resolution Notes The “full committee and subcommittees have met consistently for the last 18 months to collect data, hear presentations from experts, and receive guidance from the public on what information to include in the Draft San Francisco Reparations Plan.”

Eric McDonnell (chair of the AARAC) explained why reparations were necessary for San Francisco’s black residents. They also included: “targeted repair for targeted actions led by [the] San Francisco government,” A “redress for hostile anti-Black policies with ongoing harm,” A “moral imperative to right historical wrongs,” What black San Franciscans can do to help “help all marginalized groups.”

It was discovered late last month. revealed It was not calculated that the reparations plan of the committee had been drawn up.

According to Axios, the reparations committee will meet every other month before submitting its final proposal for June. The next reparations hearing was scheduled by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for Sept. 19, although it is unclear if there will be a vote at that time.
