Pence says it is Trump’s decision on whether to drop out if indicted

FFormer President Donald Trump is not expected to comment on the issue with Mike Pence, his former Vice President.

Pence appears to be getting ready for a 2024 run for the presidency, but has decided not to comment about one of the leading Republican candidates.

“Look, it’s a free country. Everybody can make their own decisions,” Pence stated to reporters in New Hampshire that he per Politico.

Trump is currently being investigated in New York and Georgia by Jack Smith, his special counsel. The New York case involving his business dealings appears to be closest to an indictment.

Former vice president also justified his actions on January 6, 2021, arguing that he didn’t have the authority or the right to reject the results for 2020 presidential elections.

“I know our former president has said I had the right to overturn the election, but Donald Trump is wrong,” Pence said. “I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people, and the American people alone.”

Pence’s Jan. 6 comments come less than one week after he made his most vehement rebuke to Trump at the Gridiron dinner. He said that “history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”

“President Trump was wrong,” Pence made the remarks at the annual Gridiron Club Dinner. “I had no right to overturn the election. And his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day. And I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”

New Hampshire is an early Republican primary state and the former vice president’s trip there has only fuelled speculation that Pence would join the GOP field. Trump, ex-Gov. Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina, and Vivek Rajaswamy (entrepreneur and author).

According to most recent polls Pence has fallen behind Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-FL, and Haley. DeSantis is yet to announce a 2024 campaign, but will most likely do so in the coming months.
