Vivek Ramaswamy Warns Trump Indictment Would Be ‘National Disaster’
Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who is a potential Republican presidential nominee for 2024, has spoken out against the notion of indicting former President Donald Trump. In a tweet on Saturday, he stated that a Trump indictment would be a “national disaster,” and it is against the American values to use the police power to capture political rivals. Ramaswamy further referred to the 2004 election and implied that if, during that time, a Republican prosecutor had detained Democratic candidate John Kerry using campaign finance technicality while George Bush and Dick Cheney were still in power, then liberals would undoubtedly have cried foul. Ramaswamy believes challenging legal principles goes beyond partisanship. Recently, various reports suggest that law enforcement agencies at local, state, and federal levels are getting ready to indict Trump as early as next week based on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation, which involves alleged hush money payments paid to former adult film star, Stormy Daniels, during the 2016 election cycle. If Trump gets indicted, this will be the first time in history that a former U.S. president will face criminal charges. Although Trump denies any wrongdoing and alleges being targeted in a political witch hunt, he has called on his supporters to protest. Various potential or existing GOP candidates, such as Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, and Mike Pence, have opposed the indictment’s potential impact on the race, and Ramaswamy, who announced his presidential run in February, argued in a similar vein that the country’s voters, not a prosecutor, should decide who governs the United States. In his opinion, indicting Trump will mark a dark moment in America’s history and undermine the people’s confidence in the electoral system, and he urges the district attorney to put aside partisan politics and instead focus on preserving the constitutional republic. He also emphasized that prosecutors must apply similar standards as they would do in any other case so as not to politicize the justice system, as the country is currently skating on thin ice, and another blow to democracy would push it to the breaking point.
