CNN Reporters Mugged While Covering San Francisco’s Crime Spike
‘Got robbed. Again,’ tweeted senior national correspondent Kyung Lah
CNN reporters who were covering street crime in San Francisco, California, were robbed outside the city hall on Friday. This incident comes as the city, which is run by Democrats, is grappling with a surge in crime.
Senior national correspondent Kyung Lah tweeted, “Got robbed. Again. We had security to watch our rental car + crew car. Thieves did this in under 4 seconds. Security stopped the jerks from stealing other bags.” The incident occurred while Lah and her team were conducting interviews regarding voter discontent with the rampant street crime in the city.
“This is ridiculous,” Lah added.
According to a recent study, violent and property crimes in San Francisco have surged after a dip in 2020. San Francisco residents face a 1-in-16 chance of becoming a victim of property or violent crime.
CNN’s experience comes at a time when Democratic-run cities are pushing for lenient criminal penalties amid record crime surges. With police officers leaving the force in droves in New York City, Democratic mayor Eric Adams has requested that store owners ban masks in their shops in an effort to tackle the wave of burglaries. Meanwhile, in Washington, D.C., the police chief has emphasized the need to keep “violent people in jail” as most criminals arrested are never charged.
Recently, Democratic officials in San Francisco have focused on banning gas stoves and paying reparations worth millions of dollars to black residents.
