Singer Jewel Describes Abusive Childhood, Says Her Mom ‘Embezzled’ $100M From Her

The 48-year-old singer, Jewel, has recently opened up about her challenging upbringing and her mother’s alleged embezzlement of over $100 million from her. Speaking in an interview with “The Verywell Mind Podcast,” Jewel spoke candidly about being abused by her father and being neglected by her aloof mother.

Jewel was born in Utah in 1974, and at the age of 8, her parents got divorced, and she went to live with her father. She later discovered that her mother left them because she didn’t want to be a mom.

Despite her father being physically abusive, Jewel claimed that her mother emotionally abused her in her own way – being aloof, neglectful, and putting her in inappropriate situations since she was a child.

Aside from her traumatic childhood experiences, Jewel achieved success in her music career, with her album “Pieces of You” catapulting her to fame in 1995. However, she revealed in the interview that she put her mother in charge of her finances and was shocked to discover that her mother allegedly embezzled all of her money.

Despite everything, Jewel founded Inspiring Children Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps underprivileged teens experiencing mental health challenges.
