Inflation kills Manhattan’s famous $1 pizza slice

Inflation has caused the end of Manhattan’s famous $1 pizza slice.

For several years, 2 Bros. Pizza’s East Village location on St. Mark’s Place has been a go-to spot for college students and busy New Yorkers seeking a $1 slice of pizza to fuel them throughout the day.

Unfortunately, the shop’s owners announced on Monday that they have had to increase the price of their slices to $1.50 to keep up with inflation, as per a report.

Co-owner Eli Halali explained that while they had done their best to maintain the $1 price for as long as possible while refusing to compromise on quality, they could no longer break even without raising the price. Other 2 Bros. Pizza locations in New York City had already raised their prices to $1.50, but the Halali brothers wanted to keep the East Village as the sole holdout in Manhattan.

One of the major contributors to the price increase was the higher average price of cheese in recent months, which accounts for 40% of the business’s overall food expenses, as stated by Halali.

However, this increase has not gone down well with some regulars of the East Village location. One student said that they used to buy three slices but can now only afford two, and that prices all over the city have risen significantly over the past year. Others have pleaded with the owners to bring back the $1 slice.
