New Idaho Law Will Allow Execution By Firing Squad

A new Idaho law has been passed which allows death row inmates to be executed via firing squad, making it one of only five states that permit this method of capital punishment. The bill unanimously passed with a veto-proof majority, but firing squads can only be used as a last resort if drugs for lethal injections are not available. Many drug companies have rejected requests from executioners to supply drugs for this purpose.

The use of pentobarbital as a sedative caused controversy during the Trump administration, with some defense attorneys claiming that a firing squad would be a more humane option. However, a 2019 filing disputed this claim and stated that death by firing squad could be severely painful. Governor Gavin Newsom of California criticized the new Idaho law and expressed disbelief that the Republican party still views death by firing squad as ‘humane.’

Other states have also considered alternatives to lethal injections, with some looking into the use of the electric chair or synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. The views expressed in this article are solely the author’s and not necessarily endorsed by Conservative News Daily.
