Manhattan DA inquiry: Trump campaign raises money off indictment frenzy
Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign is seeking donations from his supporters, using a possible indictment from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as an opportunity to increase fundraising.
An email sent to supporters showed a photo of barricades erected at a New York City court in anticipation of charges against Trump. The email claimed that Trump committed “no crime” and that making a donation would have a “1,500% impact.”
Reports have emerged that prosecutors are focusing on a $130,000 payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. Trump’s then-lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, allegedly arranged for Daniels to sign a nondisclosure agreement to stay quiet about an alleged affair with Trump nearly a decade prior. Possible charges include campaign finance violations and falsification of business documents relating to the payment. Trump has denied any wrongdoing.
Despite not receiving credible threats of civil unrest, New York officials were on high alert on Tuesday, following Trump’s claim that he “will be arrested.” In response, a representative for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg maintained that his office “will not be intimidated by attempts to undermine the justice process.”
Currently the front-runner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Trump’s potential indictment has been met with criticism from his declared and potential rivals.
