House Republicans divided over taking sides in Trump, DeSantis battle

There is a division among House Republicans over whether to support the potential reelection of former President Donald Trump or Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). The division comes as Trump faces a possible indictment, and some Republicans are questioning whether supporting him is the right move.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) recently endorsed DeSantis and criticized Trump’s legal battle in an interview. In contrast, some Republicans are sticking with Trump and using DeSantis’s lack of support for Trump as a way to criticize him, as exemplified by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) who recently endorsed Trump over DeSantis.

Other Republicans have voiced their concerns about the investigation into Trump’s payments to Stormy Daniels and have accused prosecutors of politically motivated targeting.

Despite the division, many Republicans still support Trump and view his potential indictment as a way to further increase his popularity.
