97-Year-Old Dick Van Dyke Crashes Car, Sustains Injuries
On March 22, 2023, Hollywood icon Dick Van Dyke crashed his 2018 Lexus LS 500 into a gate on rain-soaked streets in Malibu, California, but sustained only minor injuries, as reported by TMZ. The actor, famous for his roles in numerous TV shows and movies, including “Mary Poppins,” credited his 51-year-old wife, Arlene Silver, with helping him maintain his youthfulness. Van Dyke and Silver, a makeup artist, got married in 2012 and stay in shape by dancing and singing together.
Sources stated that at the scene of the accident, the screen legend was picked up by someone and driven to his house instead of the hospital, as he was not interested in being hospitalized, according to reports by CNN.
Van Dyke began his career more than six decades ago, and his first major role in TV was on CBS’s “The Dick Van Dyke Show” from 1961 to 1966. He won the spot on the show after winning a Tony Award for his role in “Bye-Bye Birdie.” In 1964, he scored the most notable role of his career as Bert in Disney’s musical film, “Mary Poppins.” In 2018, he was cast in the sequel of the movie called “Mary Poppins Returns.” His most recent credit is for a TV show called “Kidding” in 2020, and he is expected to participate in a forthcoming project called “Capture the Flag,” according to IMDb.
