Country singer Maren Morris says ‘arrest me’ for introducing two-year-old to drag queens
Country music artist Maren Morris dared the state of Tennessee to arrest her on Monday night after posting pictures of her son being introduced to drag queens at a drag event. “Love Rising: Let Freedom Sing (And Dance)” was the concert that featured the famous singer introducing her son to several drag queens.
The event took place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and served as “a celebration of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” The proceeds of this concert were donated to the Tennessee Equality Project, inclusion tennessee, OUTMemphis, and the Tennessee Pride Chamber.
The concert also featured performances by Sheryl Crow, Hayley Williams, and Hozier, among others.
The country singer showcased pictures of her son enjoying the dressing room alongside the drag queens, who he referred to as the “queens.” Morris tweeted, “Yes, I introduced my son to some drag queens today, so Tennessee, f****** arrest me”.
The event is noteworthy because Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee recently signed two bills into law that restrict drag performances in public and forbid doctors from providing certain gender transition treatments and procedures to minors. Morris brings a fresh perspective and broad acceptance to the table with her post.
Morris had previously made headlines after posting a tweet directed at fellow country artist Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany, for making a comment about growing up transgender in the United States. Morris later opted not to attend the CMA awards despite being nominated.
The event provided a wonderful celebration for those in attendance, with high-profile performers using their platforms to promote liberty, love, and equality.
