Minnesota nuclear plant shuts down because of leak of radioactive material

Xcel Energysaid it would temporarily shut down its Monticello nuclear power plant after it detected radioactive tritium being leaked into groundwater nearby for the second time in two years.

According to Xcel, the leak started earlier this week and spilled contaminated drinking at the Minnesota place in the amount of” lots of gallons” as a result of temporary tube maintenance.

A Approximately$ 7 TRILLION Taxes AND Use BUDGET THAT WOULD NOT Maintain THE DEBT IS PROPOSED BY BIDEN.

The nuclear power plant owned by Xcel in Monticello, Minnesota, is depicted in this document portrait from April 3, 2006.

According to the utility,” Over the past two days, operators discovered the temporary solution was no longer capturing 100 % of the leaking water.”

According to authorities, there is no risk to the public or the environment because 32 % of the contaminated drinking has already been captured.

The Mississippi River, which flows alongside the place, was not yet reached by the tritiated water, nor had it made it into the drinking water supply.

However, the nuclear plant’s incorrect tube section has forced Xcel to shut down its plant for the second time in the past two years.

The tube leaked 400,000 gallons of water contaminated with tritium in November; this information was made public for the first time last week.

In order to fix the issue while it waited for a new, continuous pipe, which was expected to be installed in April, Xcel was forced to make short-term repairs due to the first leak.

However, given that the temporary repair seems to be to blame for the latest hole, repairs may not have been successful.

To” allow it to more efficiently handle the repairs needed to completely answer” the flow, Xcel announced that it would permanently shut down the plant until the damaged pipe section was replaced.

When the energy place will resume procedures is unknown.
