Democratic Operative Takes Credit for Sparking Trump Hush Money Probe
A Democratic agent connected to the Clintons asserts that he was the impetus behind the district attorney in Manhattan’s covert capital investigation into former president Donald Trump.
Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s attorney Lanny Davis told Politico that he started the investigation in part because of his political ties to Cyrus Vance Jr., the predecessor to Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg( D ). After Cohen was sent to prison on national tax avoidance costs, Davis claimed he was able to set up interviews between him and Manhattan lawyers. Davis claimed to have known Vance’s parents from the Carter administration and that the federal prison had three visits from prosecutors to Cohen.
That’s how it started, he said.
Republicans will undoubtedly use Davis’ grounds as evidence that the Trump investigation is motivated by politics. Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, of Ohio, launched an inquiry into Trump’s case this year as rumors of his indictment grew. In what would be the first criminal trial of a former senator in British history, Bragg, who took over the Trump investigation after Vance retired, is reportedly planning to impose Trump as early as next year. Jordan asked two ex-Bragg delegates for interviews, and they claimed that Bragg wanted the Trump analysis to be dropped the previous year.
According to a Democratic source, lawmakers are debating whether to respond to Davis, who served as Bill Clinton’s special counsel and was renowned Hillary Clinton surrogate in 2016 according to the Washington Free Beacon.
Davis, who made a donation to President Joe Biden in 2020, acted as Cohen’s legal representative throughout Special Counsel Robert Mueller looked into any potential relations between Trump and Russia. Davis served as the base for many shady reports about Trump’s remarks to Cohen during the investigation. Davis acknowledged that he served as a source for the untrue report in 2018 that Trump was aware of his son with encounter with Russians during the 2016 election.
Cohen, who was once Trump’s most devoted advisor, started working with in prosecutors in 2018 after Trump came under fire for paying Stormy Daniels, a pornstar, money. Trump asked Cohen to earn Daniels$ 130,000 from Cohen’s personal bank account, and Cohen complied. Later, Trump paid Cohen back.
Democrats have actually expressed doubts about the city attorney’s investigation. Trump’s expenses to Daniels were investigated by federal prosecution, but no charges were filed. Democrats have also expressed dissatisfaction with the analysis because they want Trump to be held accountable for the Capitol riot on January 6 or for his attempts to influence the 2020 election results.
A request for comment was never answered by the Manhattan district attorney’s office.
